This past weekend I was in Salt Lake City at the Altitude Design Summit. I went on a whim , thinking it couldn’t hurt to get some tips on making this blog better for all of you. I came home with so many new ideas, plans, & ways to hopefully inspire you each and every post, not to mention I made a slew of new, insanely creative friends.
I am so glad I went, and did I mention that it was SO MUCH FUN to pack for a conference like Alt? I am used to corporate meetings & events which involve suits, panty hose, & practical footwear. Even though I often push the limits and opt for dresses, tasteful fishnets, and wedges, this time I threw limits out the window & went for stand-out-in-the-crowd style including leather pants, beaded tops & sky high heels. The world of art & design has a very special way of embracing & endorsing individuality, which is truly what it’s all about. I met some amazing people with all types of design backgrounds & blogs, and even interacted with major celebrity keynote speakers. I will definitely be back next year, but in the meantime I will continue to hammer away at the keyboard & hope to interest & inspire you beautifully, using what I’ve learned. Please feel free to give honest feedback on the various posts I put forward so I can continue to improve this blog and give you information you care to read. I so appreciate you taking a little time out of your day to hang with me at DKGstyle. Here are some thoughts & highlights from Alt this year:
The first keynote session included a rockstart panel, their topic: old vs. new media (ie. print vs. internet):
Pilar Guzman, the editor-in-cheif of Martha Stewart Living, formerly a Conde Nast editor and the brainchild behind Cookie.
Maxwell, founder and editor for Apartment Therapy, argualbly one of the most successful blogs of all time. His “daily find” column is killer!
Deborah Needleman, the editor in cheif of the wall street Journal magazine, formerly an editor at Conde Nast and the brainchild behind Domino.
The next keynote was the Pinterest dude (yes! the guy who started all of our newfound obsession)! He was so humble, funny, well spoken yet shy, and the last one to take any credit for the incredible creation that is Pinterest. His keynote in a nutshell: follow your dream despite what your better conscience tells you to do & surround yourself with people that inspire you.
Gretchen Rubin is the author of many books, her most recent being The Happiness Project. Rather than an elaborate year long journey to far off lands to find herself (ie. Eat Pray Love), Gretchen decided to study her own happiness in everyday life and write about it. There were so many take home messages from her keynote my best recommendation to you is to read her book
. Many Alt attendees claim that it changed their life. I have it on order myself!
Lastly, since this is a fashion & personal style blog, I did snap a few photos of my nightly outfit. Without my trusty hubby photographer in tow I shot them into the mirror of the hotel room. If I look a bit on the dressy side it is because I was on my way to the nightly parties each with its own theme (winter white, sequins, etc) and my room was far too messy before housekeeping got their hands on it to snap day shots.
Thank you Alt for an amazing experience! I hope to maybe even see some of you there next year.
Stylishly yours,
DKG
